Outdoor patio fire pit – A clay fireplace, or a clay chiminea, provide an outdoor place where you can confidently build a fire. People often use fire pits or chimineas on decks and patios as a kind of outdoor fireplace. Although clay fire pits and chimineas created to keep the fire, care of your device allows you to confidently build fires in the fire pit or chiminea years. If you have a clay outdoor fire pit or chiminea, you can keep it in good condition with only a few of the right tools.

Set the clay fireplace or chiminea on the location where you intend to use it. Because of the fragility of the material, you shouldn’t move the outdoor patio fire pit or chiminea more than necessary. Place a layer of lava rock in the bowl at the bottom of the clay fireplace or chiminea and just burning coals on top of the mountain.  Clean the ash out of the fireplace or chiminea bowl when it starts to interfere with your ability to start new fires.

Cover the fireplace or chiminea when you aren’t using it. Keeping mud covered to prevent rain, sun and other weather damage the clay and any painted designs on the outside of the pit or chiminea. Seal the chiminea least twice a year to keep moisture from seeping into the clay, which can cause the mud to break. You can also use a sealer on the outside of a clay fireplace to prevent water damage that can come from soil moisture. If you use the outdoor patio fire pit or chiminea several times each week, or if you live in an especially humid region, you should seal the fireplace or chiminea every three months.
